Exile,

from a status update,
‎”Artists are expected to fit into fraudulent categories. Some artists imagine they’ve got a hold on this apparatus, which in fact has got a hold of them. As a result, they end up supporting a cultural prison that is out of their control. Artists themselves are not confined, but their output is.” ~ Robert Smithson

from a status update,
‎‎”History is representational, while time is abstract; both of these artifices may be found in museums, where they span everybody’s own vacancy. The museum undermines one’s confidence in sense data and erodes the impression of textures upon which our sensations exist. Memories of ‘excitement’ seem to promise something, but nothing is always the result.” ~ Robert Smithson

from a status update,
‎”…not only do we communicate what is true, but also what is false. Often the false has a greater “reality” than the true… it seems that all information, and that includes anything that is visible, has its entropic side. Falseness, as an ultimate, is inextricably a part of entropy, and this falseness is devoid of moral implications.” ~ Robert Smithson

from a status update,
‎”The slurbs, urban sprawl, and the infinite number, of housing developments of the postwar boom have contributed to the architecture of entropy.” ~ Robert Smithson

from a status update,
‎”Questions about form seem as hopelessly inadequate as questions about content. Problems are unnecessary because problems represent values that create the illusion of purpose.” ~ Robert Smithson

from a status update,
The US is failing Egypt… just as it has always declined to support real democratic revolts… it is US policy… it is the reason the Iranian Revolution failed and died in a totalitarian regime. There is a sound throughout American houses, the sound of arrogance smashing its head against a welcoming mirror.

Chattanooga, TN. 1/31/11. Change is slow here. The skyline is the same but the city has been re-made. They only re-made what was already here.

from a status update,
Nights, colder than last year, delineate the new space. Days timed by a fading sun on a dying Earth drift close to common experience of the past in a fading and new light. “Every cop is a criminal….” resonates from a car stereo…

from a status update,
Every cop is a criminal and all the sinners are saints….

On Earth, sunlight is filtered through the Earth’s atmosphere. When direct radiation is not blocked by clouds, it is experienced as sunshine. Sunlight may be recorded using a sunshine recorder. Sunlight on Mars would be like daylight on Earth wearing sunglasses.
